WHAT IS "TRUE" ABA?
TRUE ABA practices applied behavior analysis, or ABA, which uses systematic, evidence-based methods to improve socially significant behaviors in children with autism. Hundreds of studies have shown that ABA is the most effective form of autism therapy, and it is endorsed by the US Surgeon General.
TRUE ABA interventions measure behavior in the home, school or other natural settings and help a child acquire socially significant behaviors, providing parents with the most reliant ecological assessment.
TRUE ABA provides proprietary programming by the behavior analyst that helps children across all levels of autism use their new skills in multiple situations. Home-based therapy allows the child to practice their new skills in their least restrictive environment, without the distraction of other children in crisis.
WHAT ARE THE COMPONENTS OF ABA THERAPY?
ABA therapy involves multiple treatment steps that help children overcome challenging behaviors and develop socially significant skills.
FUNCTIONAL BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENT (FBA) - An FBA is one of the main assessments conducted by a Behavior Analyst. It is a comprehensive set of assessment procedures, such as interviews and rating scales, to help understand why problem behavior occurs so that the therapist can best provide intervention services. All TRUE ABA treatment plans have an FBA for each target behavior. FBAs can reveal a cause and effect relationship between a problem behavior and what is maintaining it.
DEVELOPING NEW SKILLS - TRUE ABA trains all BCBAs and RBTS on their systematic programming for skill acquisition. BCBAs and RBTs use a variety of techniques such as: discrete trial training (or breaking down a task into small, achievable pieces), positive reinforcement, repetition and altering antecedent stimuli, to teach to help children with autism learn.
EARLY INTERVENTION - TRUE ABA specializes in early intervention from 1.5 years to kindergarten. Programming for our early intervention learners has been implemented for approximately 4 years and has demonstrated exemplary mastery rates.
THERAPY - Therapy with TRUE ABA is a commitment of time and change. We have high expectations for our staff, caregivers, and clients and that often involves 15 or more hours per week of direct care and ongoing parent training. TRUE wants your child succeed.
ONGOING ASSESSMENT - TRUE ABA therapy has a clear path to discharge. Ongoing assessments help the therapist determine if the child is progressing fluently or if alternative intervention needs to take place. An effective behavior specialist will continue to support their client, revisiting instruction when needed. The goal is to help close the achievement gap by the age of 6 so that the child is learning from their natural environment.
DOES ABA THERAPY WORK?
ABA is considered an evidence-based best practice treatment by the US Surgeon General and by the American Psychological Association. More than 20 studies have established that intensive and long-term therapy using ABA principles improves the outcomes for many children diagnosed with developmental disabilities.
